Why I decided to do KETO?

Why I decided to do KETO?

Anyone who knows me will be laughing reading this, me on Keto? If you know me, you know I am a snack junkie. Not exaggerating, not kidding, not being extra... I can literally survive on snacks and chips for days without actually eating any real food.

I envy those people who have a mini snack bar or cabinet filled with chips and chocolates and have the self-control not to eat them all. If I get three family-sized packs of Doritos or Pringles thinking I'm good for the week, that's not happening. I will eat all of them in one go and not stop until I'm done. There have been days when I skipped breakfast, lunch, and dinner because I've had too many snacks. I know this is not healthy, and it should be illegal to even be talking about this. But when I say I was addicted to snacks, I mean I was really addicted, and I would actually have withdrawal symptoms if I did not get my daily dose of snacks.

There have been moments when I was frustrated with myself, thinking, 'What is this behaviour, Ayesha? Having no self-control? You're a doctor, act like one.' I tried giving up, but the maximum days I went without having any snacks were two days.

One day, I woke up in the morning and just thought to myself, 'This is it. I am going to love myself and take care of my body.' I didn't really know how or what changed, but I knew I felt different. I made myself some eggs for breakfast and went to work. At this point, I had no idea what I was going to eat for lunch and dinner, I did not have a plan but I knew it wasn't going to be snacks for sure. I literally did not have anything healthy in my kitchen.

I had a relatively easy day at work, and during my lunch break, I was browsing different websites and apps for recipes, trying to figure out a way. I remember going to the M&S at my workplace during lunchtime, walking down every aisle, trying to figure out what was appropriate, and ended up buying some nuts and cheese for lunch. I was determined.

That's when I stumbled upon this app called KETO CYCLE. I read some reviews and decided to download it. It was a paid app, but as I said, I was determined to make it work, so I downloaded it, and it was the best decision I ever made. This app is so handy. It makes personalized meal plans according to your body type and goals. There are hundreds of recipes to choose from, and it keeps track of your progress as well. One of the most useful features is that it creates a shopping list for you for the next week, which, if you're a newbie like me, comes in very handy in terms of knowing what to buy because it can get very confusing and intimidating.

On my way back from work, I went grocery shopping. It was a lot, and my bank account was not happy at all. But I knew if I was going to do it, I had to do it right. I actually replaced everything in my pantry, from spices, flour, oils, to snack options - everything. I went from cooking once a week to cooking twice a day. Honestly, I was enjoying this shift in energy and feeling good about myself. Yes, a part of it was to lose weight, but mainly it was for me, and treating myself right. For the first time, I went without having any snacks for two weeks straight, which was an achievement in itself. Cutting sugars was not hard, but the most difficult thing for me was resisting the urge to go back to eating snacks. I am glad I made this decision. I am happy I decided to do this for myself. It has been 3 weeks now, and I am feeling stronger than ever. I have lost weight, which feels great.

This is my journey from being unhealthy to being healthy. This is my Keto journey. I will be sharing more as time goes by, including my favourite keto recipes that I have learned, as well as tips and tricks for anyone who is also at the same place as me and wants to start keto.
